Debt: Is it ever a good idea?

Debt is something that most people will have to deal with at some time or another. For many people, this is a normal part of life and something that doesn’t cause them any difficulty, but getting yourself into debt without a good reason and without a means of paying it back is never a good idea.

Mortgage lending falls in April

The number of mortgages approved fell by 4% to 45,166 in April, according to the Bank of England. Since records began in 1992, that’s the smallest number for any April. There was also a 10% month-on-month drop in the number of remortgages approved. For many economists, these figures are illustrative of an on-going depression in the housing market. Some have been more upbeat, suggesting that the drop had more to do with bank holidays and the royal wedding.
